RSM Ebner Stolz supports the Dutch-German Vion Food Group, a leading international producer of meat, meat products and plant-based alternatives, in the sale of parts of its German portfolio

Vion Food Group has strategically adjusted its activities in response to the developments in the German market. This includes the sale of the Altenburg site in Thuringia and the ham specialist Ahlener Fleischhandel to the Tönnies Group, as well as the sale of Vion Perleberg to the Schlachterei Uhlen GmbH. RSM Ebner Stolz has acted as M&A advisor to the seller in all transactions.

On January 29, 2024, RSM Ebner Stolz served as the exclusive M&A advisor for the Dutch-German Vion Food Group in the sale of the Altenburg (Thuringia), Ahlener Fleischhandel (North Rhine-Westphalia), and Vion Perleberg (Brandenburg) sites. The divestment processes were completed quickly, resulting in successful signings.

Vion has implemented a comprehensive plan for its operations in Germany, which includes the sale of its cattle slaughterhouse and consumer product plant in Altenburg (Thuringia) as well as the ham specialist Ahlener Fleischhandel to the Tönnies Group. Additionally, the pig processing plant in Perleberg, a major fresh pork marketer in Brandenburg, has been sold to Schlachterei Uhlen GmbH from Lengerich (Lower Saxony).

Antitrust approvals are required for each of these transactions, along with other conditions. Approximately 700 employees will be transferred to the respective buyers as part of the transactions.

Vion received comprehensive support from RSM Ebner Stolz throughout the entire transaction process and during negotiations with the buyers. The divestment processes were successfully completed and signed within a short timeframe.

Vion is making strategic divestments in response to the current challenges facing the German meat industry and global markets. The outbreak of African Swine Fever has led to the loss of important export markets, while declining meat consumption and increased competition are affecting business in Germany. The company aims to shift its focus to more lucrative market segments and regions in order to adapt to the changing industry landscape.

Vion Food Group, headquartered in Boxtel in the Netherlands, is a leading international company in the meat and food industry. With 28 production sites in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, as well as sales organizations in sixteen countries, it is one of the largest meat enterprises in the world.
