Context:

The 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report from Midea Group, a global technology leader, outlines ambitious sustainable development goals for 2030.

These goals include generating over 500 megawatts of photovoltaic power, decreasing greenhouse gas emission intensity (scopes 1 and 2) by 0.040, obtaining Energy Management System Certification for 50 factories, and achieving 100% carbon footprint accounting for key categories of smart home appliances.

Our approach is in line with the Sustainable Development Report Standards set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The new report and campaign are centered around four key areas: Protecting the Blue Planet, Building a Harmonious Community, Bringing Great Innovations to Life, and Creating a Prosperous Ecology Together.

The campaign:

Midea has an extensive list of ESG credentials, but effectively communicating them to a wider audience can be challenging and may risk coming across as uninspiring.

Instead of following the typical approach of showcasing nature scenes and renewable energy sources with a dull voiceover for its first-ever ESG brand film, Midea chose to prioritize entertainment in order to capture attention and stand out.

In consideration of this, a narrative film was developed to showcase a factory visit with Midea’s key VIPs, the next generation.

This unique approach emphasizes children as important VIPs and future recipients of the company’s ESG initiatives. Their presence brings a sense of warmth, simplicity, and charm, allowing the brand to communicate important information in a more engaging and approachable manner.

The film premiered globally on March 28, 2024, on various social media platforms including Linkedin, Facebook, X, and Youtube.

With a strong focus on sustainability, Midea Group is poised to continue leading the way towards a greener and more sustainable future.
