At the ITB travel trade show in Berlin, the Basilicata region once again showcased its unique tourist offerings, which have garnered a devoted following among German visitors. Marcella Di Feo, representing the region’s Agency of territorial promotion (Apt), emphasized the appeal of these niche attractions, which center on nature, Italian passions, and 'roots’, all of which resonate with German tourists.

„Basilicata never misses Berlin’s ITB” and is always present „at the Enit Italia pavilion with other regions”, said Marcella Di Feo, who is responsible for international marketing at the Apt agency.

Region’s Unique Offerings Highly Popular Among German Visitors

Basilicata region showcased its tourist attractions at Berlin’s ITB travel trade show, focusing on nature, Italian passions, and cultural roots, all of which are beloved by German tourists. Marcella Di Feo of the region’s Agency of territorial promotion (Apt) highlighted the region’s niche offerings and its strong relationship with the German tourist market, emphasizing the appeal of „green” tourism and active vacations to German visitors.

„And, obviously, we expect to always maintain a well-structured and consolidated relationship with the tourist market” in Germany, she added, speaking from the Fair’s pavilion 1, which is mainly occupied by Italy.

German tourists consistently rank in the top 10 of our visitors and are known for their diverse interests in all that Basilicata has to offer. According to Di Feo, they particularly enjoy „green” tourism and have been a key demographic during the Covid pandemic. The region is committed to further enhancing this type of tourism to cater to their tastes.

„We have a series of offers, thanks to the network of private tour operators connected to open-air” and „active vacations” that are „well-liked by Germans”, as presented at a press conference in Berlin by the Basilicata official, who was at the fair held on March 5-7.

Basilicata can be proud of its five natural parks, including two national and three regional parks, according to Di Feo.

Di Feo emphasized the region’s focus on niche tourism rather than mass tourism, offering high-quality experiences tailored to specific passions such as sailing, literature, and magic. Private professionals create special offers for passionate guests, she added.

Additionally, she emphasized the region’s goal of attracting visitors interested in the cultural heritage of the area. She stated that this year is focused on celebrating Italian roots around the world, and that they are ready to welcome back Italian emigrees and their families. Many of these visitors travel with organized tourist packages, and the region is prepared to accommodate them.
