NIKE, Inc. Appoints Long-Time Leaders Ann Miller as EVP, Global Sports Marketing and Rob Leinwand as EVP, Chief Legal Officer

After 26 years with the company, John Slusher, NIKE’s long-tenured Sports Marketing EVP, has announced his retirement.

NIKE, Inc. (NYSE: NKE) has made changes to its Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in order to position the company for continued growth and success. The focus will be on putting sport and athletes at the forefront and driving speed and efficiency.

Ann Miller, an experienced leader with almost two decades at NIKE, and currently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, will now take on the position of Executive Vice President for Global Sports Marketing. Miller will be taking over from John Slusher, who will be retiring from NIKE later this year after 26 years with the company.

“Ann possesses a unique blend of athlete mindset, deep legal expertise, and exceptional leadership. Her appointment is a testament to the value she brings to NIKE,” said Elliott Hill, President & CEO, NIKE, Inc. “I have the utmost confidence Ann will inspire, innovate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible and continue to make a lasting impact on our business and the world of sport.”

As a former college basketball player and important member of NIKE’s SLT, Miller will still report to Hill. Her new role will involve leading and expanding the company’s athlete, league, and federation portfolio, as well as integrating athletes across innovation, product, and storytelling. This strategic alignment aims to better serve athletes and prioritize sport in the company’s business.

“John Slusher has been an instrumental leader in shaping our approach to sports marketing and built a portfolio of athletes, leagues, and federations that is truly unmatched,” said Hill. “We wish him all the best in his next chapter and are thankful for his many years of service to NIKE.”

Slusher began working at NIKE in 1998 and rose through the ranks to hold leadership positions in EMEA and North America. In 2007, he took on the role of EVP, Global Sports Marketing.

Following Miller’s appointment, Rob Leinwand, who currently serves as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, will take over as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer. Leinwand, a seasoned lawyer with a strong track record, joined NIKE in 2004 and has led various teams within the legal department. He will report to Hill and join NIKE’s SLT.

“Rob is an exceptional lawyer and a trusted advisor who has consistently demonstrated excellence in his work for NIKE. I’m thrilled to welcome him to our Senior Leadership Team, where his expertise will be invaluable in driving our business forward,” said Hill.

With a focus on speed and efficiency, Venkatesh Alagirisamy, a long-time NIKE employee with 18 years of experience, will now report directly to Hill and join the Senior Leadership Team as the Chief Supply Chain Officer.
