The Project Kick-off Meeting between BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electric Company took place recently, marking a significant milestone in their collaboration.
On Feb. 17, 2025, BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company signed the world’s largest grid-scale energy storage project contracts, with a total capacity of 15.1GWh, including the previously delivered 2.6GWh project.
This collaboration is a crucial step in the advancement of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy industry and in line with the ambitious goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative. In light of the urgent global climate challenges, SEC has been unwavering in its dedication to transforming Saudi Arabia’s energy sector and leading the way in renewable energy exploration, driven by the Kingdom’s goal of reaching 50% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030.
Five sites in Saudi Arabia will be equipped with BESS technology as part of the project. BYD Energy Storage will provide their new MC Cube-T ESS, which utilizes their innovative CTS technology with a Vcts index of over 33%. These installations will be integrated into the country’s power transmission network to help manage the increasing number of renewable energy sources, ensure a stable power supply, and meet peak energy demands.
The first pilot BESS system was delivered by BYD to the market 17 years ago to explore the potential value of LFP-based battery storage systems in electricity networks. To date, BYD Energy Storage has supplied over 75GWh of BESS equipment to 350 projects in more than 110 countries and regions worldwide. Its diverse product portfolio serves various application scenarios across the generation, utility, and consumption sides, encompassing research, development, manufacturing, sales, and service. BYD Energy Storage has demonstrated its ability to supply ultra-large-scale projects exceeding 15.1GWh.
