Jobs at Rostock-based IMG Ingenieurtechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH (IMG) have been saved. Zachert Ingenieurtechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH, a subsidiary of Zachert Private Equity GmbH (ZPE), will be taking over the well-established mechanical engineering company on December 31, 2024. The acquisition will ensure the continuation of the Rostock site and preserve over 75% of the jobs. The finalization of the deal is pending approval from the creditors’ committee in January. The purchase price has been kept confidential by all parties involved.

Revitalizing the Future of Jobs

After filing for insolvency in October 2024, the Rostock-based mechanical engineering company, known for its global supply of complex systems and production lines for the shipbuilding and offshore industries, has found hope in a new investor. Olaf Zachert and the ZPE team have signed a contract to restart IMG in 2025, focusing on preserving the company’s tradition and expertise, as well as securing jobs and the plant at its current location. The priority now is the expansion and reorganization of production, with close collaboration between management, the works council, and the workforce.

IMG’s insolvency administrator Ulrich Rosenkranz from the law firm BRRS Hamburg and the commercial law firm Seitz conducted the negotiations on behalf of the purchaser. Once the contract is signed, Mr. Rosenkranz will manage existing orders, while investor Olaf Zachert’s team will reorganize the company and secure the majority of jobs based on Zachert Private Equity’s acquisition concept. „We are committed to finding a quick and promising solution for the majority of employees and trainees, and we look forward to continuing to supply IMG’s long-standing and potential customers in the usual quality,” says Olaf Zachert.

IMG Rostock continues to thrive

ZPE has demonstrated its mechanical engineering expertise by acquiring the former Bühler AG plant in Döbeln (Saxony) in May 2024. The company is now known as Döbelner Anlagen- und Maschinenbau GmbH (DAMB). Investor Olaf Zachert explains, „We have maintained all jobs and gained valuable experience in mechanical and plant engineering. Now, we need to focus on organizing the strategic development and partnerships between the two plants at their respective locations.” The expertise of the two production facilities will be combined, and the product portfolio will be expanded and further developed for promising markets. Advanced systems and production lines from Rostock will continue to be produced for IMG customers in the future.
