Intuitive`s da Vinci Single-Port Surgical System Receives CE Mark

Intuitive’s da Vinci SP surgical system has been granted CE mark approval for use in Europe for a wide range of surgical procedures, including endoscopic abdominopelvic, thoracoscopic, transoral otolaryngology, transanal colorectal, and breast surgeries.

This approval further solidifies Intuitive’s position as a global leader in minimally invasive care and robotic-assisted surgery, offering innovative solutions for a variety of medical procedures.

“We are pleased to receive CE mark for our da Vinci SP system, which offers surgeons across Europe the ability to perform more complex operations, across more patient types, in a minimally invasive way – said Intuitive CEO Gary Guthart. – The da Vinci SP system represents the latest addition to our product portfolio in Europe and expands options for surgeons and hospitals seeking to provide patients with evidence-based, innovative care”.

With the da Vinci SP system, users have access to three multi-jointed, wristed instruments and a fully wristed three-dimensional (3D), high-definition (HD) camera. These tools emerge through a single cannula and are strategically positioned around the target anatomy at the distal tip.

Equipped with three multi-jointed, wristed instruments and a fully wristed three-dimensional (3D), high-definition (HD) camera, the da Vinci SP system allows for precise triangulation around the target anatomy at the distal tip, all emerging through a single cannula.

With the single da Vinci SP system arm, surgeons can achieve flexible port placement and a wide range of motion, including 360-degrees of anatomical access. The fully articulating instruments and camera on the da Vinci SP system are controlled by surgeons from a console, allowing for excellent internal and external maneuverability.

“Surgeons in Europe have long been at the forefront of robotic-assisted surgery and have led the adoption of innovative care that offers meaningful patient benefits – said Intuitive’s Senior Vice President and General Manager for Europe Dirk Barten. – With the introduction of the da Vinci SP system, Intuitive continues to provide the latest technology to European surgeons and hospitals”.

There is a substantial amount of evidence, with nearly 400 peer reviewed publications, that demonstrate the safety, effectiveness, and positive outcomes of the da Vinci SP system.

The da Vinci SP system has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for specific urology and transoral otolaryngology procedures. It is also approved for use in Japan and Korea for procedures in various medical disciplines.
