5 marca 2024 roku w Tokio, Japonia – Architektura i wystawa pawilonu Kuwejtu na nadchodzącej Wystawie Światowej Expo 2025 w Osace, Japonia zostały dziś ujawnione publiczności podczas ceremonii w Tokio, Japonia. Udział wzięli wybitni goście z polityki, biznesu, mediów i społeczeństwa, a państwo Kuwejt i partnerzy zaangażowani w projekt przedstawili dogłębny wgląd w ambitne przedsięwzięcie.

„We are pleased and honored to unveil the State of Kuwait’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. It will serve to forge bridges of friendship and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan, as well as among all nations around the world,” says Salem Al-Watyan, Commissioner General of the State of Kuwait for Expo 2025 Osaka. „Fifty-four years ago, Kuwait was one of only four Arab nations present at Expo 1970 in Osaka. Since then, significant milestones in bilateral cooperation, partnership, and solidarity between Kuwait and Japan have been reached.”

Al-Watyan emphasized the collaboration of various teams, including the executive, technical, content creation, media campaign, and coordination and follow-up teams, in partnership with Expo management and NUSSLI to successfully prepare and execute the upcoming event.

The comprehensive efforts of the working teams, in conjunction with Expo management and main partner NUSSLI, are focused on the preparation, equipment, and execution of this significant event, as highlighted by Al-Watyan.

The exhibition at the Kuwait pavilion will highlight the country’s efforts to achieve a sustainable future for its people and enhance its global position through economic diversification and focused national development. Known for its contributions to Arab culture, arts, and social work, Kuwait is often celebrated as a symbol of cultural enlightenment and tolerance. The pavilion will present Kuwait as a Visionary Lighthouse that illuminates the Gulf region and enjoys international recognition.

„We eagerly anticipate the completion of our preparations to welcome visitors in 2025, with the aim of strengthening the close ties between the people of Kuwait and Japan, as well as fostering connections with people from around the world,” Al-Watyan concludes.

NUSSLI is a proven expert in constructing country pavilions and is currently serving as the total contractor for the Kuwait pavilion. With nine previous Expo participations, the company has extensive experience in all aspects of national presentations, especially in the construction of Expo pavilions.

„The architectural concept with its unusual shapes and materials and the extraordinary combination of tradition and high-tech in the exhibition are a complex undertaking,” Harald Dosch, Director Business Development of NUSSLI said. „We are proud to support our client’s ambitious project and, together with our project partners, we will make Kuwait’s appearance at the Expo 2025 Osaka an outstanding success.”

NUSSLI is once again tasked with constructing the Kuwait pavilion, following their work at Expo 2015 Milano. Collaborating with NUSSLI on this project are LAVA for the architecture, insglück for the exhibition, schlaich bergermann partner for structural engineering, and Tokuoka Sekkei as the Japanese architect of record, along with Mugishima Construction as the Japanese construction company.

Innovative Blend of Modern and Traditional Architecture

Designed by the architectural firm LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture), the pavilion’s striking architecture incorporates elements of Kuwait’s landscape and tradition. The open and inviting design, with its symbolic opening wings, represents the country’s renowned hospitality.

„The pavilion’s architecture seamlessly weaves Kuwait’s natural environment and traditions throughout its design,” explains Christian Tschersich, Associate Partner at LAVA. „With the concept of the Visionary Lighthouse, we aim to showcase Kuwait’s timeless vision for the future at Expo 2025 in Osaka.”

The pavilion shines brightly, especially at night when its façade is illuminated, emphasizing the theme of the „Visionary Lighthouse”. The central dome, inspired by the idea of resting in the desert at night under the starry sky, serves as the heart of the two-story pavilion, encouraging contemplation about Kuwait’s future. The courtyard at the rear of the pavilion mirrors traditional Islamic architecture and boasts a lovely garden with typical Kuwaiti planting.

Experience the Fusion of Tradition and Technology in a Spectacular Exhibition

insglück, a creative agency specializing in live marketing and communication, has created a visually stunning exhibition for the Kuwait Pavilion. This exhibition seamlessly combines tradition and high-tech, taking visitors on a journey through the Gulf state’s past, present, and future. Through interactive spatial staging and a vast explorative dome projection, the exhibition offers a multi-sensory and immersive experience.

„The pavilion will be an absolute highlight, not only architecturally but also in terms of content, and impressively reflects Kuwait’s role as a Visionary Lighthouse,” CEO Christian Poswa of insglück says. „We are creating another Expo experience that will captivate millions of visitors in Osaka.”

Visitors to the exhibition are first treated to a mesmerizing pre-show that encourages them to imagine the mysteries of Kuwait within a giant pearl. They then move into a room that tells the story of the trading nation in a desert setting. The third room highlights the people of Kuwait, with an interactive wall showcasing various personalities and projects that provide an immersive experience of the country’s culture, economy, and science. In the main show, visitors participate in shaping the future by sharing their wishes and dreams for tomorrow through an impressive dome projection.

At the start of the exhibition, visitors are captivated by a pre-show that sparks their imagination about the hidden treasures of Kuwait inside a larger-than-life pearl. They then enter a room that showcases the history of the trading nation in a desert setting. The next room puts the spotlight on the people of Kuwait, with an interactive wall offering a firsthand look at the country’s diverse culture, economy, and science through select personalities and projects. sbp, as consulting engineers, created a structural concept for the Kuwait pavilion that prioritizes both structural optimization and geometric form. According to Andreas Schnubel, Managing Director of sbp se, „It was a great pleasure to collaborate with our partners from NUSSLI and LAVA once again.”
