Infineon wins German Sustainability Award 2025

– Infineon Technologies AG has been honored with the German Sustainability Award in the „Electrical Engineering and Electronics” category, recognizing the company’s significant progress in implementing its ambitious sustainability strategy.

– The award, Europe’s largest for ecological and social commitment, acknowledges Infineon’s leading role in the field of sustainability and its status as a 'beacon’ for successful transformation within the industry.

– The German Sustainability Award is a prestigious recognition of companies that make effective and exemplary contributions to transformation and serve as role models within their industry.

– The award was presented to Infineon Technologies AG at a ceremony in Munich/Duesseldorf on 29 November 2024.

„We are particularly honored and delighted to win the German Sustainability Award,” said Elke Reichart, Member of the Management Board and Chief Digital and Sustainability Officer at Infineon, who accepted the award in Duesseldorf. „We at Infineon work hard to drive decarbonization and digitalization and to create a more sustainable future. This award is recognition, as well as an incentive to be a role model in sustainability and to continue rigorously implementing our ambitious sustainability strategy – together with our employees, customers and partners.”

Infineon has set a goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 and has made significant progress in reducing emissions by more than two thirds while increasing revenue. The company is also working to intensify collaboration along the supply chain and has begun reporting emissions at the individual product level, known as the Product Carbon Footprint. This data is already available for half of all Infineon products.

Infineon’s semiconductors play a crucial role in improving the efficiency of energy generation, transmission, storage, and utilization. A recent example of their commitment to sustainable product innovation is the development of a new energy-saving silicon carbide (SiC) module, which has been nominated for the 2024 Deutscher Zukunftspreis. This solution significantly enhances the energy efficiency of high-performance electrical applications such as solar and wind power plants, as well as train drives. Additionally, the module enables the efficient electrification of large drives in agricultural and construction machinery, ships, and aircraft. For example, a single electric locomotive equipped with this new drive system can save approximately 300 megawatt hours per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 100 single-family homes.

The German Sustainability Award is the biggest award in Europe for companies that show dedication to ecological and social causes. The jury of the German Sustainability Award (DNP) chose winners in 100 sectors from a pool of around 2000 competing companies. The award collaborates with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), WWF Germany, PwC Germany, Leuphana University Lüneburg (CSM Lüneburg), and various other industry associations to organize and execute the competition.
